  • Bethel Buckalew – The Dirty Mind of Young Sally (1970)

    Bethel Buckalew1961-1970EroticaExploitationUSA

    Quote:
Saucy, husky-voiced, totally liberated and uninhibited free spirit Sally McGuire (a winning performance by the lusciously bouncy’n’bountiful redhead soft-core starlet Sharon Kelly) gleefully disrupts the drab tranquility of a sleepy armpit California burg by broadcasting from the back of her mobile van. Sally’s shockingly ribald pirate radio program heats up the airwaves and turns on an avid libidinous swinger audience with a tantalizingly salacious mix of raunchy music, naughty sex talk, and ecstatic moans of pure pleasure Sally makes while caressing herself, masturbating and even making love live over the air. Naturally, a bunch of comically uptight no-fun guardians of the tediously repressive status quo want to nab Sally and put her out of business, but both Sally and her rascally hillbilly engineer partner-in-crime Toby (the ever-wacky George “Buck” Flower in peak goofball form) are far too quick and wily to be easily apprehended.Read More »

    Synopsis
A withered old hag turns into a beautiful young woman after drinking a youth formula.

    Review (thanks to k_t_t2001@ imdb)
A faithful adaptation of the fumetti neri
The level of success of SATANIK as a film is entirely dependant upon the audience viewing it. An audience expecting something along the lines of OPERAZIONE PAURA or CASTLE OF BLOOD will be disappointed. This isn’t a horror film. Even an audience expecting a giallo in the Argento / Fulci tradition is bound to be dissatisfied by the lack of creative violence and relatively mild gore. In 1968 the target audience for this film were the readers of the hugely successful fumetti neri that had already led to popular cinematic spin-offs of DIABOLIK and KRIMINAL. When viewed in this light, SATANIK becomes a much more successful, though no better, film.Read More »

    Quote:
Oliveira returned to the center of Portugal’s film scene in the 1960s with Acto da Primavera (Rite of spring; 1963), a work that marks a significant change in the director’s trajectory and that initiates some of the cinematic strategies that he would develop more fully in later films. In Acto da Primavera, Oliveira offers a version of a popular representation of the Passion of Christ, enacted by members of a rural community in northern Portugal, derived from the Auto da Paixão de Jesus Cristo (1559), by Francisco Vaz de Guimarães. He came across the annual Easter drama in the small town of Curalha when he was looking for locations for “O Pão,” and he was so taken by it that he wanted to return and register it on film.Read More »
