Tito Valerio Tauro is sent by the emperor Tiberius in Galilee to investigate the disappearance of the body of Jesus. Tito thinks quickly attend to his duties and return to Rome, but meets Claudia Procula, Pilate’s wife, fascinated by the personality of Jesus, who reveals that Mary Magdalene was a witness to the resurrection of Jesus. Karel Reisz – The Gambler (1974)

“James Caan as a New York college professor? Somehow it works in Karel Reisz’s interesting, mostly forgotten 1974 drama The Gambler. A quintessential ’70s film with its non-innocent protagonist swimming in a sea of sleaze and self-destructing when he should know better, The Gambler is one of cinema’s best depictions of a person’s addiction to gambling. That may seem like an inflated statement, but gambling addiction hasn’t really been a subject of film interest, at least not in the same vein as drugs or alcohol. And yet its milieu is tailor-made for drama, comedy, and tension. With that, The Gambler is a crime movie wrapped in an addiction movie wrapped in an existential void, during which, fittingly, Caan teaches his students about Dostoyevsky, one of our first existentialists (without knowing the word yet) who had a gambling problem himself. He even wrote a semi-autobiographical work about it called (again, fittingly), “The Gambler”. Like Dostoyevsky, Caan’s character, Axel, knows what he’s doing and can even discuss his psychology and madness in an offhand manner (as he does to his class) while still jonesing for his next win or lose. The story starts in a dark atmosphere, which is located slums of Istanbul in early 70’s. During the movie athmospehere gets darker and darker and at last finishes in pitch black. This is quite interesting because in that period as a result of Turkish economy & life standards people would like to see classical comedy or happy endings at cinema contrary to this kind of desperate dramas.

Its about a little boy whom realizes that he has a leukemia whether his brother tries to hide the fact. They believe that they should make the boy really happy in his last days. This is also important because, fact that they are poor they never think about cures. Continue reading

Petr Václav – Marian (1996)

Václav started his career as a director of film documentaries, first attracted critical attention with his graduation film, Paní Le Murie (Madame Le Murie, 1993) and consolidated his reputation with his first feature Marián (1996), which testified to the problems of social and racial determination and more generally also the theme of human freedom and humiliation.

Petr Vaclav graduated from FAMU in Prague. He shot documentaries about communist Czechoslovakia in the ’90s: in black and white: peasants who refused to join the communal farms, in colour, the life of Vietnamese workers toiling in Czech factories.
“Mme Le Murie” , the portrait of an aging Baroness who manages to survive fifty years of hostility in her ruined property, was nominated for the Student Oscar and was awarded the Prize for the Best documentary film at the Film School Film Festival.
Vaclav produced and directed his first feature movie “Marian” , story of a Romany child, shot with Romany non actors who share similar fates with his hero. “Marian” received multiple awards including the Silver Leopard in Locarno.
