Nicolas Klotz – Low Life (2011)


A group of young people are organizing. One night, they face the police who came to evacuate an African squat. Carmen meets Hussain, a young afghan poet. Crazy in love, they don’t leave each other. But a curse hangs over the city, papers are carrying death, bodies are falling. Panicked at the idea that he could get arrested, Carmen forbids him to go out, and locks herself with him. Gradually, Hussain get the feeling that she is watching him…

Nicolas Klotz and Elisabeth Perceval develop together a filming and writing method that interrogates the cinematographic form as well as the contemporary changes. In 2004, La Blessure was presented at the Quinzaine des réalisateurs in Cannes. With La Question humaine, presented as well at the Quinzaine des réalisateurs in 2007, they finish La Trilogie des Temps Moderne, started in 2000 with Paria. Low Life represents 4 years of search and work, opening new horizons in their cinema.
