29f7c043f76a2bde437fd0d52a185152

Two young women in love communicate through fantasy and touching in a rhythmic buildup, merging time concepts. Flashes of the past blend with the present and future in a collage of themselves, the hills, the sea and their sexuality.

  1. Although her (all or nearly all of them shorts ?) filmography may not be as extensive as that of Kenneth Anger or Maya Deren, I think this filmmaker should probably rank in their company and be much better known. I’ve found it frustrating that any known public or biographical information about her, her career or working methods, amounts to about a sentence and a half. We are told that she was a member of a Bay Area film collective in the late 60’s / early 70’s, and that’s about it. Her inspired use of techniques like superimposition — in this short “Holding” especially — really stands out among my well over half-century of observing cinema far and wide.
