The film is made according to a real event. At the end of 1942 and the beginning of 1943, the Bulgarian occupiers intensify the oppression and torture of the civilians in order to prevent the spreading of the Revolution for the liberation of Bitola’s environs. After the treachery of the peasant Dime Paftar, who informed the occupiers of the presence of partisans in the village of Lavci, among whom is the legendary partisan Todor Angelov – the Teacher, for whom a warrant has been issued, the Bulgarian chief of the police staff and the major of the Bulgarian soldiers in Bitola organize a joint action to attack the village. Covered by darkness, the partisans, together with the peasants prepare to leave the village. However the attack starts around the besieged village. After a great and eager fight the partisans succeed in breaking out of the encirclement but the peasants and the Teacher stay in the village. The Teacher is hidden in Josif’s house, in the attic. The Bulgarian police enter the village. All male inhabitants older than 15 are crowded into the middle of the village, while women and children are forbidden to leave the houses. The major and the chief of the police in order to catch the Teacher select 25 peasants and threaten that they will be killed…
