In 1928, Gaston Modot was on the set of the ambitious film production
La Merveilleuse vie de Jeanne d’Arc, fille de Lorraine directed by Marco de Gastyne.
By day, he plays the minor role of Lord William Glasdall.
But by night, or in between shots, he takes the opportunity
of filming an adaptation of a short story, La Torture par l’espérance,
Conte cruel will keep costs to a minimum, reusing sets,
the natural scenery of Mont-Saint-Michel and Vézelay , equipment,
some of the actors and a more modest technical crew from Marco de Gastyne’s costly film,
which benefited from public authorities and the Church.
