Susumu Hani – Bwana Toshi no uta AKA The Song of Bwana Toshi (1965)
Quote:
On the border of Kenya and Tangoniga in East Africa, a Japanese, Toshio Kataoka, finally arrived here. A Japanese academic survey team came to build a comprehensive research facility. But in the village where Toshio finally arrived after more than three days of travel, no one could help him, leaving only a letter of disconnection. At the end of his rope, the handsome man asked the local youth for help through a boy he knew. However, in the village where the clan chief led by the boy, not to mention the conveners, even the cattle were used all day long. Despite this, handsome man still worked hard. Because of this opportunity, Toshio was called “toshi” by everyone in the village and became close to him. Soon, people in the village also noticed the handsome man’s mood and began to assist him in his work. However, they had no concept of building a house at all. In addition, they had a unique habit of “porepore” (slowly and leisurely), so the work made no progress. However, one day Toshio met Dr. Onishi, who followed and studied the human ancestor, the Maton gorilla, and Toshio was moved by his enthusiasm. It just so happened that at this time, new free-standing round roofs were also becoming popular in the African wilderness. Affected by this, Junnan’s work was postponed again. Soon, a new country was finally born. Workshops began to come to life, and magnificent modern buildings were completed. The handsome man danced with the local youth until dawn. Soon after the sun rose, the local young people took the handsome man to the lakeside and sang for him. “A Japanese named Toshi came from the East… As a thank-you gift, Toshio brought the young man who had not seen the sea or the train to the port city. Soon, the time of departure came. Toshio returned to his motherland, Japan, and the young man Back to the wilds of Africa.

Thanks for the film and for the great work as always. Just to note that this is tagged with “Japanese female directors” even though Hani is not female
Cool upload! Susumu Hani is a man, btw.
I’m spellbound by the quality of this print! You have recently put several other Hani films on the website and these were the expected ones (and in differing quality that was also to be expected), but this one is a huge surprise! Are there any others, like “The Full Life”, The Bride of the Andes” or “Aido” available as well? I would have been glad to put them on the request list a long time ago, but never expected there was a chance.
Susumu Hani is not a woman
