Jørgen Leth & Per Kirkeby – Dyrehaven, den romantiske skov AKA The Deer Garden, the Romantic Forest (1970)

Per Kirkeby and Jørgen Leth about the film: ‘It should be a beautiful film that truly depicts nature, and which also utilises associations linked to Dyrehaven as a concept. The skeleton is the changing of the seasons, depicted in images. By ‘images’ we mean individual images without any continuity other than that provided by the frame itself, the changing seasons. Into this skeleton, we build purely romantic images as a field of association that contains the historical side of the Deer Park. After all, Dyrehaven is not just any forest, but a forest that occupies a large place in the country’s artistic consciousness.’
