…drunkenimp: by coincidence, i happened to have bought the dvd
(had pre-ordered it, it was released just now, on 23 November).
And luckily, it came with japanese subs as well
(most of the times, japanese dvds don’t include subs at all). First i OCR-ed them.
Then slowly / patiently, in small parts (on a per scene basis, roughly speaking),
i passed them through GPT4o.
The ‘luckily’ part is the fact that the dvd already had ‘proper’ japanese subs i could OCR:
alternatively, someone can first use demucs + Whisper to get a transcription of the vocals / dialogues,
and then afterwards use GPT/Sonnet and the likes to translate.
That’s obviously a far more involved & time consuming process…
(and thereby prone to way more errors/inaccuracies).
In either case, if being patient enough / going back & forwards doing corrections,
you can eventually end up with a relatively passable & fairly usable result in most cases…
By no means ‘professional grade’…but ‘decent enough’.
On a side note, although i can’t possibly be entirely sure of what kind of process coralsundy follows…
most of the times, he/she seems to do a really, really quick’n’dirty job.
Strong emphasis on ‘dirty’… (as already explained above,
the more time you’re willing to spend, the ‘cleaner’ & more accurate the end results…)
