I was charmed by this film, which captures a surprise wedding shower for young Ricky and Roxann (whom, we learned during the post-show Q&A, are no longer together), attended by their genial working class Italian- and Polish-American relatives. It was filmed in Harwood Heights (“We always need something to ruin the sound,” Palazzolo said of the O’Hare noises in the background) on August 13, 1972, the day my dad turned 21, so I wondered what he up to that day in Chicago, or perhaps in Melrose Park with his own Polish mother and Italian father.
