KAFF is Hungary’s largest animation film festival. This is where the legendary Water Spider – Wonder Spider “Vízipók-Csodapók” was made, bought by 46 countries and which taught generations of children that both friendship and protection of nature are important.

The Water Spider – Wonder Spider is a Hungarian television cartoon series starring the Water Spider and the Cross Spider. The Water Spider’s home is the underwater Crystal Palace. Their best friends are the algae-collecting water snails, Ladybug, little ants, a bee, a back-swimming bug, Nünüke and the hornet. During their adventures, they also meet Uncle Csíbor, Uncle Rák, a goat frog and other inhabitants of the insect world.

Unlike land spiders, our water spider friend does not weave his web in the corners of rooms or in the hiding places of trees and bushes, but rather sits in his underwater castle in the air. His best friend, the slightly grumbling and constantly incredulous Cross Spider, is amazed by this. But through their relationship, he experiences that being different from him can still make him a truly “normal” spider.

Three series of Water Spiders were made, the first in 1975/76, the second in 1980, and the third in 1985, with a total of 39 episodes, also commissioned by Hungarian Television . The first two series were made at the Pannónia Film Studio in Budapest , and then Kecskemétfilm Kft. took over the production of the third series.
