If I am not mistaken, the scenario of this film is based upon an award winning story from Cumhuriyet,a prestigious paper in Turkey.Teyzem( My maternal aunt) is a very sentimental and successfully- managed story of relation between a young aunt in Istanbul and her nephew coming to the city to visit her and his grandparents.The aunt and her nephew, Baris,manage to construct a sound and secret friendship and alliance amongst each others during summer holiday and arrange visits to the former’s boyfriend who is a handsome guitarist in a local band. Noone in the family is aware of these secret visits.In the film, the audience is given opportunity to observe daily life of an Istanbul family making his way through a very moderate economic resources.For grandparents, nothing could be more important than their daughter’s eventual marriage with a decent man.Read More »

A young writer anguished because he finds nothing interesting to write about, strolls through the streets of Izmir. He comes across a series of posters of Sevim Suna, a local singer. She intrigues him and he stops to wonder who she is. At that point a man comes up to him and says that her name is “Vasfiye”. The stranger begins to tell her story. Suat, who still lives with his mother, father and sister, works at his father’s store in his spare time after practicing as goalkeeper for Esnaf Spor, an amateur football team. Approaching his 30s, Suat is in love with Nurten, the neighborhood beauty, but she has never responded to any of the many secret letters he has sent to her. The whole neighborhood’s greatest wish is for Esnaf Spor to win the amateur football league championship, which would also give them a shot at becoming a professional club. The opportunity to go professional gets the small-time powers that be into action.
