Karel Kachyna – Cukrová bouda (1981)

In the final days of the Second World War in 1945 Frantisek Pribyl is killed during a shoot-out with the Germans. After the funeral, the widow (Jana Svandová) and her two young sons Martin and Ondra move to her deceased husband’s native village at the foot of the Kralický Snezník mountains. Life in the borderlands is far from easy for the lonely woman. The village is almost deserted, food supplies are delayed; the Werwolf (Nazi guerrilla squads) are hiding in the mountains, and shooting is heard from time to time. The elder son Ondra (Michal Dlouhý) is helping out his mother and at the same time absorbing intense new experiences. He meets an old Czech resident Skurek (Lubomír Kostelka), German women working in the forest, soldiers from the engineering units removing the mines, and a young first lieutenant. At night he dreams about his dead father whom he loved very much. This is why he runs away from home when he finds out that the lieutenant is courting his mother.

I downloaded the file a few times (months apart, with consistent results) and in attempted playback (not on the computer, and not using VLC) it quits after a couple minutes. Inspecting the file with the MediaInfo utility reveals Why. It shows “Truncated: Yes.” So the file is corrupt. Might you have some alternate source for this film, as it is pretty rare ? If not, I may be able to convert it to another format like AVI, which could possibly force a re-indexing of the video and make it play straight on through — albeit minus whatever was lost. Not really a good solution, but better than nothing I suppose. And btw, I ran the film through Whisper AI to generate EN subs for this. Don’t know how good they turned out but am looking forward to finding out. I’d be glad to share them, if you like.
unfortunately the source file is corrupted. we’d be grateful for English subtitles.
Thank you!
Sorry to be so slow in saying thank you for this great rarity. I allowed my Nitroflare account to lapse.
As Davide mentions below, there is some kind of issue with the file. For example, if you try to jump forward in the film, there is a lag as the file loads, in a way that doesn’t happen with other video files. However, the most important thing is that it did play without problems, at least on MY laptop, using VLC. So users should not be put off. Furthermore, it’s a very fine HDTV rip of a very rare film.
Unfortunatly there are some issues, the last part of the film ‘freezes’ and cannot be viewed, ans also scrolling forward is difficult. Hopefully it can be fixed.
